Progressing Towards the Age of Aquarius
I accept with joy and with confidence and with a sense of comradeship, my share in the responsibility of making the spiritual work in the world successful.1

Light and cohesion are to electricity as love and brotherhood are to the Soul. In this dawning Age of Aquarius, it is the science of the Soul which engrosses the attention of our finest minds. Such a scientific study will help us understand the laws of the spiritual kingdom—the properties and processes of spiritual illumination, intuitive perception, creativity and the “pure reason” and logical causes of brotherly love. It is expected that duality and conflict will give way to synthesis and universality. Competition and aggressiveness will yield to sharing and cooperation. Throughout the past two thousand years of the Piscean Age we have focused on the material plane. In the approaching Age of Aquarius we shall focus on resurrection and freedom from the “tomb of matter.” The emphasis will be on the livingness of the indwelling spiritual nature and its dominion over matter. The Piscean Age of materialism, possession and authority will be superseded by the age of spirituality, intuition and universal consciousness. “After weeping cometh joy and that joy cometh in the morning.” As yet, our experience is one of coming out of the darkness into the earliest glimmer of dawning light.

The potential of the Age of Aquarius however, must be actualized. We who are aware of the possibility and the opportunity are called upon to usher it in. As human beings we are ever subject to the crises of discrimination. We stand yet at a juncture, at a transition point. The esoteric wisdom tells us that the first decanate of Aquarius is governed by Saturn. Hence, our present difficulties, upheavals and crises—all of which provide new and fresh opportunities for choice, discipline and understanding. In every field of thought and in every group we find two compelling forces because of this transition between the Piscean energies which have dominated for the past 2000 years and the new incoming Aquarian energies. As a result, we have those who are tied to the past and those who are oriented toward the future. Accordingly, each of us must choose and answer the question for ourselves: Which will dominate—our materialistic inclinations or the Soul of love and light; the way of comfort and physical plane security or the way of “the mind’s true liberation;” the way of the past or the way of the future?

The symbol of the Aquarian Age is that of a human being bearing a jar of water so full that it pours over to all and sundry and yet it diminishes not. Two streams pour out of the jar. These symbolize the perpetual flowing of the universal energies of love and “life more abundant”—available to all who are able to receive them. The keynote for Aquarius is “Water of Life Am I Poured Forth for Thirsty Men.” Identifying with every form in every kingdom, the Aquarian recognizes the underlying bond which holds all together. Working with others in a subjective, telepathic and synthetic manner, the Aquarian consecrates her/himself to the welfare of humanity and the planet, ever seeking the good of the whole.

Looked for during the coming age is the reappearance of the World Teacher. He is that Great Being Whom the Christian calls the Christ. He is known also by such names as the Bodhisattva, the Lord Maitreya, the Imam Mahdi and sometimes He is referred to as the “True Aquarian.” The esoteric wisdom tells us that “He it is Who has presided over the destinies of life since about 600 BC and He it is Who has come out among men before, and Who is again looked for.”2 He is the great Lord of Love and Compassion, the Master of the Masters, the Instructor of the Angels and the One for Whom All the Nations Wait. Much work must each of us accomplish before that reappearance can become a reality. Certain transformations and specified conditions are necessary to provide the needed magnetic and invocative appeal. With the utmost of effort and discipline, with deepened love for humanity and a decentralized attitude towards personality reactions each of us are called to steadfastly create the “Way of Resurrection,” the “Radiant Way.” Each of us can attempt to fit ourselves to respond to the incoming Aquarian energies, keeping uppermost in our minds that it is the demand of the disciples of the world which will bring in that which the world needs.
