The Law of Elevation and the Principle of Sharing in the Age of Aquarius

"It is not possible to picture the revelation of the Love of the solar Logos as it reveals itself to the eye of the illuminated seer, nor to show the nature of the cosmic Lord of Sacrifice as He limits Himself in order to save. At each step along the Path, the extent of that love and sacrifice is opened up as the disciple knows himself to be in tiny measure also a Lord of Sacrifice and Love. ...knowledge would not reveal it, and it is only as a man transcends knowledge, and knows himself to be something non-separative, and inclusive that this particular revelation comes to him."1

IN THIS EVOLVING AGE OF AQUARIUS, THE "WATER CARRIERS," another name for the New Group of World Servers, are starting upon their self-appointed task of world salvation. The sign of Aquarius, as we are told, governs the blood system and its circulation. By means of the blood, the life force is distributed throughout the entire human body and this provides a clear and evident symbol for the task of the liberated Aquarian who dispenses spiritual life—the "water of life" or life more abundantly—throughout the whole of humanity.

The Aquarian Principle of Sharing derives from this imperative for the free flowing circulation of all, which sustains and nurtures all aspects of life. Whether we refer to the economic resources of the planet or to the life more abundant referred to by Jesus in his conversation with the Samaritan woman at the well as described in John 4:13/14 wherein Jesus refers to the spiritual energies that become as a "spring of water welling up to eternal life," sharing is the crucial necessity of our time. As the ancient Turkish proverb reminds us, "When one person drinks while another can only watch, doomsday follows." Today, global statistics attest to the immoral and obscene fact that the many who watch include 1.2 billion people who struggle to survive on less than a dollar a day, many of whom can only helplessly look on as loved ones (24,000/day) suffer and die from hunger and hunger related diseases.

For humanity, economic sharing is an urgent and vital necessity. In this essential practice, the disciples and the spiritually awakened individuals and groups of the world can aid as they seek to understand and selflessly strive towards the Way of Resurrection2 that will ultimately create that link in consciousness between spirit and matter.

Universality—the recognition of the interconnectedness of the individual, the planet and the universe—is one of the major characteristics of the Age of Aquarius. Thus, the Law of Elevation will become increasingly important and effective. As its name implies, this Law refers to the ability of the individual to uplift the group who then in turn can benefit humanity as a whole. In A Treatise on Cosmic Fire, wherein this Law is described, we read, "The elevation of a unit results in the raising of the group... No man liveth to himself, and the crucifixion of the units throughout the aeons, and their realization of their essential nature, only in order to offer up the best they have and realize to the interests of the group, are but the methods whereby the work of liberation is carried forward." (p. 1218)

In this same book we further read that the symbols of the manifesting Creative Hierarchies are all enclosed in a circle, denoting limitation and the circumscribing of the Life. This is another way of saying that all life is interconnected—all is part of the same circle of universal life. Metaphorically, we breathe in what the other breathes out and vice versa.

In the first volume of her Letters, on 20 December 1934, Helena Roerich affirms this Law of Elevation and the Principle of Sharing when she writes, "The time will come when they will realize that if it were not for the great self-sacrifice of a small group of the Highest Spirits who, through aeons, have incarnated among the people at the great turning points in the history of the planet in order to give a new impulse to the human consciousness, and if their efforts had not been continued on by a small number of their disciples and the co-workers of these disciples, our humanity would even now be on the level of the troglodytes!"

It is perhaps this truth which is at the heart of the Bodhisattva pledge attributed to Kwan-Yin: "Never will I seek nor receive private, individual salvation; never will I enter into final peace alone; but forever and everywhere will I live and strive for the redemption of every creature throughout the world from the bonds of conditioned existence."

2 The Way of Resurrection is defined by the Tibetan Master, Djwhal Khul as "the radiant Way, the lighted Way which leads from one great expression of divinity in man to another; it is the way which expresses the light of the intelligence, the radiant substance of true love, and the inflexible will which permits of no defeat or withdrawal."
